Building and Finance Committee

The Building and Finance Committee meets two or three months to keep an eye on the maintenance of the parish's buildings and finances.

The parish is fortunate to be able to draw on a wide range of talents for this committee, which includes Fr Peter Sharrock (Parish Priest), Ken Chadwick (Chairman), David Ashworth, Paul Greenwood, Ian Harrison (Treasurer), Mary Newton, Bernadette Brumwell, Peter Nutter and Bill Robinson.

Following a meeting that took place on Thursday, 7 April 2016, this statement was issued by the Committee in relation to the Church Hall restoration:

"The restoration is a major project which will be expensive and cannot be carried out quickly. The Hall is a Grade 2 Listed Building and therefore there are many restrictions as to what we are allowed to do and many permissions that we have to obtain.

We all want the Hall to provide the best modern facilities for a wide range of uses by the Parish but to carry out that work will cost a great deal of money. For that reason we do not want to waste money on short-term remedial work which may have to be removed when the full restoration takes place.

We are investigating the availability of grants for the work and to that end we are dealing with architects who specialise in obtaining grants. Even then we anticipate that the maximum grant will be 50% of the cost with the Parish providing the other 50%, hence the need for fundraising. Once we know what grants are available we will know how much the Parish has to provide. We can then decide the extent of restoration that is financially feasible. Once we have a clear picture as to what work can be carried out, the timetable to complete the work and the cost of that work we will inform the Parish. In the meantime fund raising will continue.

We are grateful to the members of the Hall Committee for their hard work and fundraising efforts and to the Parish for supporting those fundraising events and would ask you all to support future events."

There will be an open meeting on Tuesday, 7 November 2017 at 7.00pm where parishioners can share their vision for what type of parish hall they would like to see and how it would benefit the parish.
